The eastern part of Chiwa (1905)

The eastern part of Chiwa 1905

This is a map of the eastern part of Chiwa from the book Eine Reise durch Vorderasien im Jahre 1904 written by Erich Zugmayer. It is one of three maps available as appendices to the documented journey of the author from Vienna to Tbilisi through Russian Transcaucasia. In the present map, the Amu Darya River separating the Kyzylkum desert from the Karakum desert can be seen together with surrounding roads, ruins and cultivated land. Towns and cities along the routes are given different markings indicating their size. Additionally, an abandoned caravan route from Chiwa to Merv is marked on this map. The other two maps available in the book show Yerevan, Sevan Lake, Lake Urmia and Kojun Daghi.
